Tiered In-Cart Upsell in Cart Drawer

The Problem

The cart drawer could only show a simple, static upsell list. Every customer saw the same suggestions regardless of how much they were already spending, which meant high-value customers weren't getting tailored recommendations that matched their basket size.

The Solution

We extended the existing upsell in the cart drawer into a tiered model. Marketing can define up to three cart value tiers and assign different upsell product sets to each tier, plus a general fallback. As a shopper's cart subtotal changes, the upsell section automatically switches to the most relevant tier.

Why It Mattered

Upsell recommendations now feel more relevant to how much a customer is already spending. Higher-value shoppers see stronger or more premium suggestions, which helps lift average order value without adding friction to the cart experience.

Technical Details

Built with custom JavaScript and Liquid in the OS 2.0 theme. Tier thresholds and product lists are stored in Theme Settings, and the upsell block listens to cart changes and recalculates the active tier whenever cart content or subtotal changes.
