The Problem
Customers who wanted to give one of the store's products as a gift had no simple, structured way to do it online. They had to guess a product, size and customization on someone else's behalf, or handle gifting outside the site entirely. There was no dedicated flow for buying or redeeming a gift card, which limited gifting use cases and made it harder to acquire new customers through gifts.
The Solution
We introduced a dedicated Gift Card product page and gifting flow. On the Gift Card PDP, the buyer selects a card amount and clicks "Send as a gift", which opens a Go Gift Cards popup. They fill in recipient name, email, greeting message, "from" name, and the send date. Once the order is completed, a digital gift card is generated and sent to the recipient by email on the chosen date. The recipient can redeem the card at checkout using the code, and check their balance on a dedicated checker page.
Why It Mattered
It enabled a clean, branded gifting experience that brings new customers in and lets existing customers buy presents without guessing size or style. Scheduling and personalized messaging make gift cards feel more premium and occasion-ready, which supports acquisition around birthdays, weddings and holidays, and gives the store additional prepaid revenue through gift card sales.
Technical Details
We implemented it via the third-party Go Gift Cards app, integrated into a dedicated Shopify product page. Amount selection uses standard product variants ($50–$500), and the "Send as a gift" CTA opens the Go Gift Cards widget popup. The widget collects recipient details, shows a live preview, and on Add to Cart passes the configuration to the Go Gift Cards backend. The app generates the gift card code, sends the email on the selected date, and powers the balance checker. Redemption at checkout uses Go Gift Cards' Shopify integration so the balance is applied against the order total.
